چکیده

Dualor multi-energy computed tomography systems that can provide improved material identification are of great interest in airport luggage screening. While dual-energy luggage scanning systems are commercially available, dual-energy reconstruction remains challenging because data sensitivity varies greatly depending on the material parameter being estimated, and because prior information about materials of interest is imprecise. Here we extend earlier work [1] that uses a variational framework to perform simultaneous segmentation and reconstruction focusing on materials of interest, by introducing novel regularization terms and by developing a more computationally tractable variation of the previous approach. Experimental results with realistic luggage show that material property estimates can be stabilized by estimating foreground values, which can be expected to make material identification more robust.

Comparing 511 keV Attenuation Maps Obtained from Different Energy Mapping Methods for CT Based Attenuation Correction of PET Data

Introduction:  The  advent  of  dual-modality  PET/CT  scanners  has  revolutionized  clinical  oncology  by  improving lesion localization and facilitating treatment planning for radiotherapy. In addition, the use of  CT images for CT-based attenuation correction (CTAC) decreases the overall scanning time and creates  a noise-free  attenuation  map  (6map).  CTAC  methods  include  scaling,  s...

Simultaneous Reconstruction and Segmentation of CT Scans with Shadowed Data

We propose a variational approach for simultaneous reconstruction and multiclass segmentation of X-ray CT images, with limited field of view and missing data. We propose a simple energy minimisation approach, loosely based on a Bayesian rationale. The resulting non convex problem is solved by alternating reconstruction steps using an iterated relaxed proximal gradient, and a proximal approach f...

A novel dual energy CT-based attenuation correction method in PET/CT systems: A phantom study

In present PET/CT scanners, PET attenuation correction is performed by relying on the information given by CT scan. In the CT-based attenuation correction methods, dual-energy technique (DECT) is the most accurate approach, which has been limited due to the increasing patient dose. In this feasibility study, we have introduced a new method that can implement dual-en...

Iterative Reconstruction for Quantitative Tissue Decomposition in Dual-Energy CT

Quantitative tissue classification using dual-energy CT has the potential to improve accuracy in radiation therapy dose planning as it provides more information about material composition of scanned objects than the currently used methods based on single-energy CT. One problem that hinders successful application of both singleand dualenergy CT is the presence of beam hardening and scatter artif...

A Hybrid Method for Segmentation and Visualization of Teeth in Multi-Slice CT scan Images

Introduction: Various computer assisted medical procedures such as dental implant, orthodontic planning, face, jaw and cosmetic surgeries require automatic quantification and volumetric visualization of teeth. In this regard, segmentation is a major step. Material and Methods: In this paper, inspired by our previous experiences and considering the anatomical knowledge of teeth and jaws, we prop...
